Please bring along the books you have at home, that you read long ago, which are now just collecting dust. Place them on the window ledge by the garden doors, so others can come along and enjoy them. It would be great to have a nice selection so that our patrons can take a book and put one back.
Sir John’s Literary History
Sir John has been here since 1670 and is named after Shakespeare's fictional character, who was the partner in crime of Henry IV. The reason for the naming was that Gads Hill was the location of the crimes committed on travellers by Sir John Falstaff and Prince Hal, the Prince of Wales and future Henry V.
Not sure we need to mention the Charles Dickens connection and history….
